When it comes to beverage, one can think of Axia, a clear extra-dry Mastiha spirit. This alcohol is distilled from the resin of the mastiha tree that can be found on the Greek island of Chios. The brand milks its sap before leaving it to dry in the wind to form crystals which are then cleaned by hand and twice distilled.

Transparent or thick, perfumery plays with this vegetal blood. Each time, a leading note gives the tone. On one hand, a watery sap featuring fresh and transparent notes of lily of the valley or eucalyptus. On the other hand, a resinous sap showcasing animalic-ish facets. Cistus, Incense or Cypress recreate this balmy -slightly bitter- accord.

PERFUMER TALK

Symrise - carini-favorite-2
With the creation of the vitessence cannabis, my aim was to explore and to find a way to represent the complexity and olfactive addiction you have by smelling the real natural scent of cannabis flowers. To approach the creation in a realistic way I was supported by our R&D in NJ: we did headspace analysis on cannabis flowers and on the smoke coming from the flowers burning in a bong. the Headspace outcomes were stunning and I combined the analysis findings with what my nose was suggesting smelling the fresh flowers.

The beauty of this vitessence found its basis in a combination between green-vegetal notes, bitter aromatic sides and fruity accents played between grapefruit, passion fruit and peach notes. I was playing finding an equilibrium between green tea notes and spicy peppery hints, built on a rich - resinous woody bases with smoky accent.

I love to explore the endless effects of this vitessence in formulations: I love to marry it with floral and chypre fragrance to add a new interesting green-spicy hook on top notes, modernising even more classical structures . I like to use the vitessence in masculine fougere notes to complexify the aromatic side with a bitter fruity-tropical effect, typical of cannabis flower. I do love to use the vitessence even to modernise fruity fragrances. It is like introducing a totally innovative and modern suplhoric note in fruits, creating a new mouth-watering addiction which develops from top notes up to base notes. In this way it helped me in the modernisation of the fruity profile of one of our old de Laire base called “Cassissiane”, imparting a natural and surprising natural fresh cutted mango effect on top notes.
